WVAEA, Inc. & Literacy Volunteers of America through a grant from the
Benedum Foundation will sponsor BOLT's State-wide Student Forum/Annual Meeting
which will be held during the fifth annual adult education and family literacy conference, sponsored by the WVAEA, Inc. at Pipestem State
Park, Hinton, West Virginia on November 13, 14, 15 & 16, 2001. For more information about the conference, click here.

Goals and
Objectives
(A) Goal
To continue to give students
an opportunity to express their views and concerns regarding the planning,
implementation and evaluation of adult basic education and literacy services
within their respective communities.
Objectives:
To
sponsor four (4) regional student forums for the regions in RESA I & IV,
RESA II & III,
RESA V & VI and RESA VII &
VIII.
2. Each of
the four regional forums will have a maximum of 36 students at each
forum representing
adult education and literacy from those counties within each
of the RESA's
territory. Three (3) adult learners will be invited from each county
located within each
region.
3. To have
at least 75% of participating students from each forum express the
desire to continue
playing a proactive role for adult students by; (a) committing
to help the student
organization with recruitment, class orientation and
retention strategies at
their respective local adult education and literacy programs,
(b) continue to
represent their region at a state-wide student forum.
(B) Goal :
To create a means for
adult students to participate in a student organization which will give them a
unified voice, and/or to be proactive to the mission of the student
organization, that is; to promote the success of Adult Education efforts
throughout West Virginia, to expand the role of adult students as leaders, to
create public awareness, to advocate for effective policies and practices, to
promote the understanding that all who want to improve their skills can do so,
and to unite all learners in literacy and adult education
programs.
Objectives:
1.
Four (4) to seven (7) adult students from each of the four (4) regional forums
will be encouraged to
participate at a state-wide student
forum.
2. All
student forum participants from all regions will be given information
packets about BOLT,
their mission/goals, membership information, a survey
card, a student
hotline, name/address/telephone/email of officers,
etc. Technical advise
will be given on how they can help with classroom orientation,
recruitment and
retention
strategies.
3. The
state-wide student forum will develop a two year plan for continuing
the scholarship fund
sponsored by the Student Affiliate by doing seasonal
fundraising activities
through private donation, corporate donations, auction,
raffle, sales and
through grants.
4.
Information gathered by the Student Affiliate through student surveys will be
made available to all
local literacy and adult education programs upon
request..
5. A
student representative from one of the forums will be selected to represent
the Student Affiliate
at an Adult Education national conference on a session
regarding student
organizations.
